The Boy Who Didn't Want Moms
We were having a rough day, this boy and I.
I was so upset with him that I rolled down the windows for a rapid breeze and extra oxygen. He was so upset with me that he was sulking in the back seat, thumb in mouth.
After pulling into our spot in the driveway and killing the engine, Nolan disengaged his thumb just long enough to calmly, thoughtfully say, "When I am Dada's age, I will live in my own house with no moms." With an emphasis on no.
And then the thumb re-entered the portal.

Brother Sounds
After emerging from time spent in the abyss of my own mind yesterday while gardening in my back yard, I tuned into some lovely sounds around me.
A slight breeze cutting through the field out back.
Crickets chirping in our tall grass (grumble... we need to mow).
Many and varied bird songs high in the trees.
My boys scheming together in the grove beside our house.
That was my most favorite sound. Excited voices conversing together in the midst of play. A laugh or shriek thrown in here or there. Two brothers enjoying an afternoon outside together.
They are fun boys. They make friends easily at school, church, and the park, but above all, they are friends with each other. "Best brothers and best friends." That's what they tell me. They have the most fun together and nothing could please me more as their mother. In fact, I can hear them downstairs chatting and giggling their nap time away. That doesn't please me so much.

Yesterday: A Dream Come True
Chickens.
Just hatched on Monday. We got three. So far, we have loved them and named them: Tweety, Cutie, and Chonko Boppo. By June, we plan to be the proud caretakers of one Golden Comet, one Aracauna, and ten Orpingtons, all snuggled in one hen house by night and roaming our yard by day.
And that is one of my dreams come true.
