For those interested, Gerret had his four month well visit Tuesday and he weighed in at 14lbs. 5 oz. and is 15 1/4 inches. Big Boy! He is currently in 3-6 month clothes, but starting to fit some 6-9. So we're looking ahead to when Gerret and Nolan will be the same size and so nearly identical that people will refer to them as "Norret". Kind of has a nice ring to it, huh?

Memorial Day

We found ourselves in the 'burg for Memorial Day this year. Thus we enjoyed the Fabulous, the Grand, the Splenderific, Annual Trumansburg Memorial Day Parade. Rated one of the "must see" parades of the year, we decided it was not to be missed and even headed to it with an exceptional amount of time to spare. In the back of my mind I was a little fearful that the streets would be crowded and we wouldn't be able to see well enough (prompted by memories of Provo). We arrived about ten minutes before the parade and (much to my dismay) found Main Street deserted. To bide our time, we took a walk to Grove Cemetery and paid our respects to my great and great great grandparents Kelley and upon returning to our car found ourselves with still more time. So we bought milk shakes then pushed to the front of the crowd (which consisted of my mom and dad) just in time for the start and finish of the parade. That's right folks, the start and finish were simultaneous. You could watch the entire parade all at once. That's how grandly short it was. Patrick complained about it. "We came all the way out for that?" "Why even organize a parade?" "I think I blinked and missed it." I just laughed. I guess I wasn't too surprised. After all, I grew up here and I even marched in this particular parade as a Brownie when I was 7. And really, we were only there to support my two fabulous sisters who were the main attraction (which is easy to be when there are only three attractions total). I guess next year I'll be attending this wonderous event minus the company of Patrick. I just don't understand how he can be so accepting of Ovid's BIG M and yet so bitterly disappointed in the T-burg Memorial Day Parade.

Naughty Hair

Nolan got a haircut Thursday. It wasn't his first haircut or anything (if you're counting, it was his fourth) but it was a haircut to take note of because it was the first time I really buzzed it off instead of just trimming it. Patrick's first reaction to him was "where's all your hair??" and inside my head I was thinking, "why did I lop it all off?" Why did I do it? Just look at the before photos. It was getting kind of out of control/mop-like on the top and it was getting too close to bedtime so I didn't think he'd sit still for a fancy haircut. So, I just went for the gusto.

The next day, he threw his first real temper tantrum and he proceeded to be poorly behaved for the rest of the weekend. It's now Monday and this morning was by no means a smooth ride either. My mom said that the terrible twos don't start right on a child's second birthday (because I was hoping it was something you could count on). He's three and a half months shy of two and I fear that the terribleness has started a bit early. I believe that "terrible twos" is a label erroneously given in place of "poor parenting" Yikes! I'd better figure out where I went wrong!

But then I got to thinking and there seems to be a correlation between Nolan's streak of naughtiness and his new haircut. Is it a coincidence or did all this begin with a haircut? My Grandpa suggested that maybe Nolan is like Samson. Is his strength of character all in his hair? Also, the more I look at his hair, the more of an impulse I feel to call it a "bad boy haircut". Grandma said that maybe there was a particularly naughty boy in my past who had a buzz cut and Nolan now reminds me of him. Luckily, hair grows back. Of course, I might find out that there is no link between hair and behavior and then I'll really have to face up to whatever I'm doing wrong as a parent. I will not have a terrible two year old (famous last words).
