Both Nolan and Gerret were sick by Friday morning, so we weren't sure if we would go out for Halloween, but the weather turned out to be something of a dream, so we couldn't pass up the chance to get out in it (and I was itching for some Snickers). Nolan was a cowboy. He was so cute and everyone said so. At a few doors, the person answering had us wait so they could get other people in their house to come see him. He really was something cutely special, that's for sure. He rang a few door bells, but mostly just pounded with his fist as hard as he possibly could.

It looked like it probably hurt, but he didn't flinch. I took pity on him after the first few doors, and knocked for him. Then he would peer out from under the brim of his hat with those big brown eyes and say (mostly at my prompting), "Trick-o-treat". People just loved it. Sometimes they would bring the bowl of candy right down to his level before he said anything. He would take that as a sign that he didn't need to make the effort to stumble through the phrase and he would go right for the candy. Sometimes he would say "howdy" and that

was also very cute. Some people noticed Gerret, the bee, riding in the stroller and they would give Nolan candy for him as well. And so, we consider Halloween 2008 a success because nobody got hurt, Nolan seemed to really enjoy being a cowboy, having cute kids knock on strangers' doors is a good way to spread cheer, and both of my candy loving fiends got enough sweet stuff for the next few months (and so

did I).
