The Week

Auburn turned 16 months old last week. She's almost too old for me to be counting her months, but I'll persist for a few more.

 At sixteen months:
 she has 8 teeth,
is a light-weight, medium-height girl with a lot of spunk and adventure in her,
is capable of walking but still favors her hands and knees,
loves books and her brothers' toys,
and is still most captivated by a cupboard full of a variety of goods to unload.

Nolan was happy to have a five day weekend, Friday through Tuesday. I was happy to send him back on Wednesday. Extended time off from school always makes wonder how I miraculously made it through last summer and simultaneously fear the fast approach of the next one.
One of Gerret's creations and Nolan in a serious brawl with an unseen foe on the couch

Gerret had even more time off, but his reaction was quite the opposite of Nolan's. He was disappointed when Wednesday came and there were still two days before nursery school reconvened. Such is the difference between a private nursery school and a public first grade, I guess.

This invitation appeared in my in-box, Friday morning.
There's nothing better than a Friday night, post-bedtime, at-home date with my favorite boy. I actually can't think of anything better. Because his advertisement promised goats, he stopped at Wegmans for Chevre. He also purchased some Camembert, and two baguettes. The Chevre was actually made at the goat farm down the road from us and was more expensive than the Camembert which was imported from France.

At the end of the week, we discovered that possums seem to live together. A second thief stole an egg late in the night. We caught him in the act and he sheepishly climbed a tree to hide his face.  We got him down and then sent him to be with his relative whom he may have been missing since Valentine's Night. We're hoping the rest of the family got the hint and changed locations, we don't delight in bloodshed, but we delight even less in dead chickens and stolen eggs.
